The river came up yet again after heavy rain in the last 2 days.
Graph above shows the height up & down river.
The upper river has already fallen well back, but is still very dirty.
The lower river peaked in the early hours of this morning, & is falling albeit rather slowly.
Clarity throughout is about 6 inches as of now.   read more.

Free Fishing again next week on the Blackwater Lodge beats

Blackwater Lodge beat 7 – Upper Kilmurry on Wednesday, February 17.

The Lodge will once again offer free fishing from Monday Feb. 22 to Friday, Feb. 26 inclusive.

This graph should update itself each time you log in until the end of February.
The river is in superb fly order. We’re still waiting for our first springer to be caught, but are seeing some fresh fish running through every day.

If you missed The Nationwide programme on Friday, February 19 - which was entirely dedicated to fishing - you can access this on the Internet for 21 days after broadcast on www.rte.ie/player/.

Took a few pics at Swords Show last weekend & put them up on Youtube.

It was the coldest December on record in Ireland, and for the first time since 1601 the Blackwater froze over completely at both Fermoy & Cappoquin.

This was the front page of the local newspaper on December 23rd.

Here's some pictures taken over the last week or so.

Thank goodness, the Big Freeze is finally over now. This was the river below the Lodge on December 28.

Hope the new year brings better weather.

Only 12 Days to Opening Day!

This is the graph of the height of the river up to this morning.
Dropping off steadily after a 2 metre flood on the 16th.,which has given it a good flush out.
The forecast is for mostly dry weather right up to the Opening Day on February 1st.,
so it looks as if it could even be in fly order by then.
With temperatures falling again - as low as -5C at night - and the lower water levels,
the best chance of a fish at the start will be on the lower beats below Clondulane weir.

Only four rods out today, and John McSweeney from Co. Cork caught & released the seventh fish of the season on the Lodge beats - a fresh fish of ~6½lb on spinner on Kents on the lower river.
The river is in absolutely perfect fly order. The gauge height is 0.33m this evening with excellent clarity.
The weather forecast is dry up to the middle of next week.
